Beach Chair Recall

February 1 , 2017 | Personal Injury

Currently in Wisconsin, we are experiencing winter which includes snow, ice and freezing temperatures. With weather like this many people may be wishing for beach weather. Because of the weather, some people travel to places where it is warm and it is beach weather oftentimes bringing along items to use at the beach. A common item that people bring with them to the beach is a beach chair.

Recently, IKEA, a furniture manufacturer and retailer, issued a recall for around 33,000 beach chairs. The recall came after the discovery that the chairs could cause injuries to people’s fingers.

The U.S. Consumer and Product Safety Commission released a statement saying that the retailer has received 13 reports of their beach chairs causing harm to fingers. The reports of injuries to fingers have come from consumers of the product from all over the world, including the United States. Six of the reported injuries to fingers included the loss of a fingertip resulting from the chair malfunctioning. One loss of a fingertip occurred in the United States.

The company issued a statement saying that after washing the fabric element of the beach chair, the consumer may incorrectly put the chair back together. If the chair is not put back together properly, there is a risk of the chair causing injuries to fingers.

If you own a MYSINGSO beach chair, you are encouraged to return the chair to any IKEA store and will be given a full refund of the purchase price.
