We expect the products we use and consume to be safe for our use and consumption. Unfortunately that is not always the case, and sometimes the products we use and consume cause potential hazards to health and safety. When a potential defect with a product is discovered, it is common for the company to issue a recall to warn consumers of the potential issue with the product. Recently, Target has issued a recall for some of its USB charging cables.
The recall covers more than 90,000 USB charging cables, which were sold all across the country. The recall comes after the discovery that that the cables can potentially become electrically charged if contact is made with the prongs while charging. If the electrical charge occurs it can pose shock and fire hazards. The recall was issued on Wednesday, May 29th.
The cables involved in the recall are used to charge cellphones and other electronics, which use lightning connector cables for charging. The cables included in the recall have metal that is are purple, green and blue. Additionally, “heyday” is printed on the cable. The model number of the recalled connector cables is 080 08 8261. The model number is not printed on the cable itself, but it was printed on the side of the cable packaging. The cables were manufactured by Chug, Inc. in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and distributed by Target stores across the U.S.
Target has received 14 reports of the cables included in the recall smoking, sparking or igniting. Additionally, two of these reports included individuals who suffered burns as a result of the cable defects. If you own one of these cables, you should stop using it to avoid potential injuries and property damage.
