One of the hardest decisions in life is to place a loved one in an assisted living facility or nursing home. When placing a loved one in an assisted living facility, we expect them to receive a high level of quality of care and for them to be treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve. Unfortunately, that is not always the case and sometimes nursing home abuse occurs. Recently, there were incidents at an assisted living facility in North Carolina that resulted in three workers being criminally charged.
Beginning in June 2019, law enforcement officials began receiving reports of elder abuse occurring at an assisted living facility in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The police launched an investigation into the accusations along with help from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Resources. The results of the investigation resulted in three female employees being charged after the conclusion that they encouraged residents at the facility to fight with one another. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the fighting between the residents. Additionally, the investigation found that at least one of the employees had physically assaulted one of the facility’s residents by shoving them.
Two of the workers alleged to have been involved in these incidents were arrested on October 2, 2019 and October 3, 2019. The third employee was arrested on October 10, 2019. Two of the workers were given bond and released from police custody while the other was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court.
