Unfortunately, automobile accidents happen. These accidents can cause both injuries and property damage to those involved. Accidents can occur for a variety of reasons, including motor vehicle malfunctions. Sometimes when a company notices malfunctions in their products, they issue a recall to inform consumers of the problem and work to fix it. After discovering the potential of some of their vehicles to roll even when placed in park, the automobile maker, Ford, has issued a recall.
The vehicles included in the recall are certain Ford Fusions with the model years 2013 through 2014 as well as some Ford Escapes with the model years 2013 through 2014. The recall comes after the discovery that the vehicles may begin to roll away unexpectedly. The vehicles may roll unexpectedly because of a gearshift problem. The vehicle may appear to be in a gear, but may not actually be in that gear. There is a busing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission, and it is possible for this cable to fall off. If the cable falls off, it is possible for the driver to shift into park, but for the car to remain in another gear. If this occurs there is a chance that the vehicle could roll. If the vehicle rolls unexpectedly, there is an increase in the probability that there could be an accident or injury to someone.
The company has stated that it does not know of any accidents or injuries stemming from this issue. To prevent the vehicles from rolling, the company is encouraging owners to always use the parking brake. The company will notify owners of all the cars affected by the recall by July 30, 2018. If you own one of the recalled vehicles, you will be able to take it to a Ford dealership to have the shifter bushing replaced at no cost.
