The 4th of July is one of the most dangerous days for driving during the year. Every year on the 4th of July, there is a high volume of car accidents including many accidents that cause injuries and even fatalities. This 4th of July was no exception.
On July 4, 2017 in Racine, Wisconsin around 4:30 pm there was an accident involving a car and two motorcycles. The accident occurred when the driver of the car attempted to pull out of a parking lot and did not yield the right of way to the motorcycles.
The motorcyclists were traveling eastbound when the car began to pull out of the parking lot. Because the car pulled out without yielding the right of way, the motorcyclists were unable to stop and collided with the car.
Law enforcement officials were called to the scene of the accident. Both of the motorcyclists sustained injuries as a result of the collision and were transported to the hospital to receive treatment for the injuries. Thankfully, neither of the motorcylists injuries were life threatening.
Law enforcement officials are investigating the accident. Authorities believe that alcohol was a factor in the accident. The driver of the car was arrested for failure to yield the right of way causing injury as well as two counts of operating while intoxicated causing injury.
Drivers should never drink and drive. Drinking and driving increases the likelihood of being involved in a car accident which can cause injuries to yourself and others. If you plan on consuming alcohol, you should have a plan as to how you will get home safely that does not involve you driving. By not drinking and driving, we can make the roadways safer for everyone.
How can we stop drinking and driving?
