Recall of Ear and Teeth Homeopathic Products for Children

December 7 , 2016 | Personal Injury

A recall has been issued from Raritan Pharmaceuticals on two of their products. These products are their homeopathic liquid ear relief and teething tablets. The recall comes after the discovery that the products contain belladonna. Belladonna can be dangerous, and sometimes even fatal, when large quantities of it are consumed.

Here is a list of the products being recalled:

  • CVS Homeopathic Infant’s Teething Tablets
  • Kid’s Relief Homeopathic Ear Relief Oral Liquid
  • CVS Homeopathic Kids’ Ear Relief Liquid

These products are sold all over the country. The products only contain small amounts of belladonna, and the major concern arises from the fact that the products were found to have various amounts of belladonna.

Belladonna is a toxin that comes from a poisonlous plant. Usually, the products contain miniscule amounts of belladonna, which is believed to be safe to consume. But if too much belladonna is ingested it can lead to severe reactions such as seizures, difficulty breathing and excessive sleepiness.

Because of the dicovery of the varying amounts of belladonna in the products, the bottles may not be labeled correctly. This can lead to exposure to dangerous levels of belladonna because consumers do not know how much of the toxin they are ingesting.

At this point in time, there have not been any reports about consumers being harmed by the product. The FDA urges that consumers stop using the products, and if consumers experience health problems while using the products they should consult a healthcare professional.

What do you think about the inclusion of belladonna in these products?
