The electronic and appliance producer, Samsung, has issued a recall for almost 3 million washing machines. The recall comes after the discovery that the washing machines have the potential to explode.
This recall was announced on November 4, 2016. There have been reports that the lids of the washing machines can fly off while the washing machine is running. The flying lid can cause injury to those around the machine.
It is most common for the lid of the machine to fly off when bedding, water-resistant or large items are washed on high. The machine may experience excessive vibration that cause the lid to detach from the rest of the machine. So far there have been 733 reports of machines experiencing excessive vibration or the lids flying off the machines. Nine people have reported injuries from the machines. Some of the injuries include a broken jaw and fall-related injuries.
The washing machines affectd by the recall were sold at Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and other stores where home appliances are sold. The machines were sold from March 2011 through November 2016. There are 34 models of the Samsung washing machines that are affected.
If you believe that you may have a recalled washing machine, you should call Samsung to verify. Samsung is offering free repair of the recalled machines or rebates to buy new washing machines.
